Caviar20 has long admired Lizz Aston's evolving career and body of work.

We are pleased to be offering her incredible creations. 

Aston's practice is inspired by the history and production of textiles and decorative arts. In recent years she has also been intrigued by semi-precious stones and rocks with dynamic color combinations...leading to a curious contrast between a stone's everlasting qualities and the delicate nature of paper and fabric. 

"Watermelon Tourmaline" honors an actual precious stone revered for its impressive ombré that shifts from green to an incredible pink. ()

Like the best of Lizz Aston's work she embraces an anonymous textile pattern, such as a hand-made lace doily, and then manipulates it digitally before creating a new contemporary descendant. These transformed and augmented patterns are then hand-cut on fine Japanese Kozo paper (aka mulberry paper) which are then painted, stained or dyed. In this work Aston masterfully creates a color scale that begins with a dense jade green followed by lime and pear which flow into a soft tangerine that arrives in the center of a juicy peach/coral pink. 

To heighten the form's impact Aston elevates the cut-out with a structure of pins creating dramatic shadows.
